Introducing S.A.G.E.

The first S.A.G.E. concept note: a locally hosted intelligence and knowledge layer intended to become part of the broader AetherOS ecosystem.

S.A.G.E. — the Specialized Adaptation Guidance Engine — began as one of the first concrete systems inside the larger AetherOS idea.

What S.A.G.E. is trying to become

The concept is a locally hosted, AI-assisted system connected to personal knowledge, projects, tasks, calendars, and eventually devices around a home network.

Rather than treating AI as a generic chat window, the experiment asks what happens when an assistant is designed around one real environment and the work happening inside it.

Early architecture

The original plan used existing hardware rather than starting with an expensive new server:

  1. Reconfigure an older desktop as an always-on local server.
  2. Use one old laptop as a worker machine.
  3. Use another old laptop as a sandbox/testing environment.
  4. Establish a knowledge repository using Obsidian.
  5. Run a local language model, with commercial API access available only when useful.
  6. Add memory and a vector database.
  7. Design a S.A.G.E. interface and personality layer.
  8. Test the system on the local network.
  9. Build secure remote access once the local system is dependable.

Why it belongs inside AetherOS

S.A.G.E. is not intended to be a separate chatbot product. It is an intelligence and knowledge thread inside AetherOS: something that could eventually help connect information, interfaces, devices, and future experiments such as Project Sprite.

The long-term ambition is deliberately playful: something closer to the feeling of a fictional personal AI assistant, while being built from understandable, local components one step at a time.

Archive note: This is the original direction-setting entry, migrated into the current Lab. The architecture continues to evolve as the broader AetherOS research develops.
